“There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what a child can do instead of on what he cannot do.”

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)  is the science that studies the relationship between our behavior and the environment, thus using that understanding to develop programs that can be applied to influence socially significant behaviors and bring about changes that can enhance children’s learning in several areas of development.

Through this evidenced-based approach, behavior analysts identify variables in the environment that can be modified to teach new skills to individuals that will improve their health, ability to communicate, social relationships, independence, and other skills.

At TLS we provided exceptional services with professionals who are properly trained and accredited by the necessary institutions.

Some of those certifications include:

BCBA - Board Certified Behavior Analyst: is qualified to provide services to clients with a variety of needs, including improvements in organizational functioning (e.g., staff performance, management), skill deficits (e.g., communication, adaptive behavior, life skills, academic skills), and problem behavior (e.g., aggression, self-injurious behavior), among others.

RBT - Registered Behavioral Technician: is a paraprofessional with certification in behavior analysis. RBTs assist in delivering behavior analysis services and practice under the direction and close supervision of a BCBA or an RBT Requirements Coordinator, who are responsible for all work RBTs perform.

  • Certified RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) Provides direct ABA service to individual clients and is supervised by BCBAs and BCaBa®s

  • See clients on a more frequent basis

  • Deliver the protocol that helps individuals learn new behavior and reduce other behaviors

BHCOE - Behavioral Health Center of Excellence: is an earned certification and a distinction among ABA providers that demonstrates an organization’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement in applied behavior analysis. Behavioral Health Center of Excellence® (BHCOE®) grants accreditations to organizations that meet the standards for clinical and operational quality.

HOW DOES ABA THERAPY WORK?

Phase 1:

The Behavior analyst first starts by conducting an intake visit with the family to gather background information from the family in which surveys and other questionnaires will be provided to the family. On the second visit, the behavior analyst with assistance from the RBT will conduct an initial assessment to determine your child’s skill levels in different areas of development, as well as if your child will work 1:1 or in a group setting, or a mix of both.

Once that part is completed, the behavior analysts will meet with the family to explain the results and discuss the recommended services, which include the skills to be addressed.

Phase 2:

The Behavior Analyst assigns the therapists that will be working with your child. The program recommendations will be provided and the schedule will be set.

Phase 3:

Sessions will start taking place. Behavior Analysts will provide supervision and meet with the family on a regular basis to discuss progress, concerns, adjustments to the program, and complete caregiver training.
